Dear sir/madam,

COMMUNICATION 2 – UPDATE 1:       THE DEFIANT MRS LEYSANLI MAINTAINS HER ACTIVE CAMPAIGN FOR SOUTHERN AZERBAIJAN AND HER HUSBAND

Please find enclosed Update 1 to Communication 2 (Ref.: 491/2008 on 14 April 2008) for the defence of human rights of Mrs. Ruqeyye Leysanli.

We would like to draw your attention to the statement by Mrs. Leysanli published on 17 April 2008 by Voice of America (http://www.voanews.com/persian/2008-04-17-voa20.cfm), after being detained for a day on 12 April 2008 by Iranian authorities. Mrs. Leysanli has confirmed to VOA that Southern Azerbaijanis shall continue their struggle for the restoration of their human rights. She has stated that “they (Iranian authorities) will never be able vanquish us. Even if they imprison Abbas for the whole of his lifetime, they shall never break our will and we will keep campaigning (supporting) for him.”

Whilst Iranian authorities have illegally deported Mr. Leysanli from Southern Azerbaijan to their firm grip in Farsi-speaking Iran and deter Mrs. Leysanli within their iron-curtain of social exclusion measures, this defiant family is resolute to exercise their human rights, and as such they are a credit to the body of human right. If their plight is not defended by mandates within your authority in a visible manner, the dark forces within the Iranian authorities will be appeased and we cannot believe that you would overlook the delicacy of the matter. We hope that you are maintaining the exercise of your mandates to the Islamic Republic of Iran to safeguard Mrs. Leysanli’s human rights and for this we thank you in advance for your care.

Yours faithfully,

Boyuk Resuloglu
